Feedstock Displacement

Applies to: Pellet/Briquette Plant; CHP Plant; Biogas Plant

Description:

This indicator refers to the prevention of any negative displacement effects. These are caused when an increase in demand from the bioenergy industry causes supply to be diverted from other markets/industries. As a result, these will need to either source the feedstock from a different location or to employ different materials.

Question:

Does the project include utilization of feedstock that is already used (e.g. for food/feed, bedding, fertilization etc.)?

Rating:

Comment:

If the answer is Yes, the assessor is advised to use an additional tool (BEFS OLT) that deals with potential risks and benefits for particularly food security from agricultural/bioenergy investments. The corresponding link is as follows: http://www.fao.org/energy/befs/operator-tool/en/.
