Plant Characteristics

Applies to:

Biogas Plant

Description:

This indicator refers to the prevention of negative impacts of GHG emissions on the environment. The indicator considers commonly used measures to reduce CH4 leakages from a biogas plant, covering of the digestate storage, implementation of biogas flare and closed feeding system. CH4 is GHG with global warming potential (GWP100) of 34. GWP was developed to allow comparisons of the global warming impacts of different gases. It shows how much energy the emissions of a gas will absorb over a given period of time, relative to the emissions of an equal mass of CO2.

Questions:

Is digestate storage covered to avoid methane emissions?

Does the plant have a biogas flare?

Is plant’s feeding system closed?

Rating:

Digestate storage closed, biogas flare exists, feeding system closed

Digestate storage closed, biogas flare exists, feeding system open

Digestate storage closed, no biogas flare, feeding system open

Digestate storage open
