Silage Effluent Storage

Description:

This indicator refers to the prevention of negative impacts of silage effluent on the environment. Silage effluent has a Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) of up to 200 times that of raw sewage and it is highly acidic. The indicator considers characteristics of the storage and wastewater management.

Questions:

Is the storage facility fully closed?

Is the silage effluent storage fully closed?

Is rainwater separately collected and appropriately discharged?

Rating:

Closed silage storage, closed dedicated effluent storage and rainwater separately managed

Closed silage storage, closed dedicated effluent storage and rainwater not separately managed

Silage storage and/or effluent storage not fully closed
